We had an amazing visit to CITY BEAR 生態農場 in Changhua, Taiwan, an organic farm that perfectly demonstrates a circular economy model. A special thanks to Prof. Chen Shi-Xiong (陳世雄教授) for the warm welcome!
The farm’s ecosystem is brilliantly interconnected:
- Black Soldier Fly (BSF): Converts organic waste into protein-rich animal feed.
- Organic Chickens: Fed with BSF larvae, producing sustainable and nutritious poultry.
- Organic Plants: Fertilized using BSF frass and chicken manure, growing healthy crops.
- Beekeeping: Pollinates plants to boost yields while producing honey.
This closed-loop system eliminates waste and maximizes sustainability. We were inspired by their approach and are excited to adapt similar practices for our Botanical Garden in Tanzania!
